If you're buying a used phone in Pakistan, PTA approval is the single most important thing to check after the price. Here's what it actually means in 2026 — without the jargon.

PTA-approved vs non-PTA

  • PTA-approved (compliant): the phone is registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and works on local networks long-term.
  • Non-PTA (non-compliant): not registered. It works on Wi-Fi and, for a grace window, on networks — but can then be blocked unless you register it and pay the applicable duty.

A non-PTA phone is usually cheaper. That can be a genuine deal if you factor in the registration cost. It's only a problem when a seller hides it.

How to check — free, in seconds

  1. Get the IMEI: dial *#06# or check Settings → About phone.
  2. Run it through the free NoSiappa IMEI check, SMS it to 8484, or use dirbs.pta.gov.pk.

On NoSiappa, you always know

Every listing shows its PTA status badge, and every device is IMEI-verified before it goes live and re-checked before the seller is paid. No hidden blocks, no nasty surprises — and if a phone isn't as described, you're refunded.

Use the free IMEI check on NoSiappa, SMS the 15-digit IMEI to 8484, or look it up on the official PTA DIRBS portal at dirbs.pta.gov.pk.
Can I still use a non-PTA phone?
Yes, for a grace period and on Wi-Fi — but it can be network-blocked afterwards unless you register it with PTA and pay the applicable duty.
