IMEI, TAC & PTA in plain English
Your IMEI is a 15-digit ID unique to every phone. The first 8 digits are the TAC (Type Allocation Code), which identify the make and model; the rest identify the individual device plus a checksum.
PTA approval decides whether a phone works long-term on Pakistani networks:
- PTA-approved (compliant): works on local networks indefinitely.
- Non-PTA (non-compliant): can be blocked unless registered with PTA (which may involve a tax).
How to check — free
- Get the IMEI: dial *#06# or check Settings → About phone.
- Run it through the free NoSiappa IMEI check, or SMS it to 8484, or use the official dirbs.pta.gov.pk portal.
On NoSiappa
Every listing shows its PTA status badge, and each device is IMEI-verified before it goes live. A "PTA-verified" badge means our team confirmed the 8484 proof. You always know what you're buying — no surprises.
Tip: a cheaper non-PTA phone can be a good deal if you understand the registration cost. Factor it into the price.
